SuCoLo Pilot Launches in Leipzig

One of the SuCoLo Project’s research pilots is now being implemented in the suburban area of Lützschena-Stahmeln in Leipzig!

The pilot focuses on the sustainable delivery of goods by cargo bike, as well as the development of inclusive pick-up stations.

Led by the Logistics Living Lab of Leipzig University, the pilot was preceded by a co-creation workshop with local stakeholders. A citizen survey on mobility and shopping behaviour was also conducted, resulting in the development of two digital tools:

  • Pick-up Station Location Finder – an AI-based simulation model for identifying optimal pick-up station locations in urban outskirts
  • Bike Courier Routing Prototype – a tool to support efficient route planning for bicycle logistics

Now, in collaboration with the bike courier service Fulmo, the pilot has started! Packages from DHL and other providers are transported from local retailers to a micro-hub and then delivered by cargo bike to customers or nearby pick-up stations. Delivery items include regional fruit and vegetable boxes as well as regular parcels.
